Centerless grinding offers a high surface quality for parts and substrates, minimizing the need for additional finishing processes.
At Merced Screw Products, we work with the following materials:
- Stainless steel
- Plastics, including acetal, nylon, Delrin, PTC, and acrylics
- Cast iron
The advent of centerless grinding has improved the versatility and complexity of grinding processes. Before centerless grinding was developed, round parts had to be held in place using a chuck or fixture or held between two centers. Now, centerless grinding feeds rounded parts between a grinding wheel and a smaller-sized regulating wheel.
As the workpiece goes between these wheels, it rests at an angle on a support. The grinding wheel’s force pushes the workpiece into the regulating wheel, which determines the rotational speed of the part. The grinding wheel is precisely fed into the part until the parameters of the computer programming are complete.
Merced Screw Products offers a variety of state-of-the-art grinding services from our 25,000-square-foot facility. Our equipment includes two Cincinnati Centerless Grinders, which provide optimal quality, reliability, and efficiency.
Maximum grinding and regulating wheel stability and rigidity are ensured on these machines due to the use of heavily ribbed meehanite castings in combination with standard outboard supports. Our machines also feature hydrostatic babbit-type spindles, automatic lube systems, and a variety of available grinding accessories. These elements combine to create a highly reliable, versatile, and efficient centerless grinding set-up.
Our equipment offers ±0.0001″ tolerances, which is extremely tight for grinding applications. Some of the parts that we regularly produce include:
